School Boards are governed by state law and must carry out that law.
This responsibility includes establishing the policies by which local
schools are governed. In addition, the Board is tasked with
representing the public’s voice in public education and setting
standards for achievement. Calvert County Board of Education members
are elected for a four-year term. As representatives of their
communities, school board members mirror the diverse democracies they
serve. Local control of education through the Board of Education has
made it possible for schools to enable students to fulfill their
potential.
The Board holds two meetings per month except for January, June, July
and August where only one meeting is held. The meetings are scheduled
on Thursdays. The dates are set taking into consideration holidays and
school closings. The calendar for the meetings can be found on the CCPS Website. There is an opportunity for public comments at the monthly business meeting. Tentative agendas for board meetings are available on the CCPS Website on the Monday prior to the scheduled meeting.
Other special meetings and hearings are scheduled on an as need
basis. Administrative and/or Closed sessions are not open to the
public as permitted by the Maryland Open Meetings Act, Section 3-305(b)
of the General Provisions Article of the Annotated Code of Maryland
and Section 3-103 of the General Provisions Article of the Annotated
Code of Maryland.
Meetings are held in the Board Room of the Brooks Administrative
Building at 1305 Dares Beach Road in Prince Frederick, Maryland. For
